Lab1: STEAM+ Citizen Science for Marine Conservation
18 July 2021 - 23 July 2021
To achieve our goals, we host STEAM+ Innovation Labs. These are interactive workshops where teachers and students experiment with different methods of cocreation and cooperation to solve real world problems. The experiences we gain from these labs are used to improve our products.
The Collegio Internazionale Ca’ Foscari, Venice, Italy was responsible for the first STEAM+ Innovation Lab. In line with the aim and the main goals of the STEAM+ project, this Lab was developed by combining: transdisciplinarity, co-creation, citizen science and marine conservation.
Specifically, the Lab aimed at fostering socio-ecological literacy, contributing to co-creation of knowledge for marine conservation, and nurturing (citizen scientific) commitment for environmental stewardship. It had a focus on marine conservation, in light of the challenges that the (unique in the world) city of Venice is facing.
Finally, in the perspective of Citizen Science, the methodological assumption of the Lab was that diversity is a plus – the lab was based on a transdisciplinary and methodologically diverse approach, also enriched by the cultural heterogeneity of the participants.
